NBCNews: Astronaut Neil Armstrong, first man to walk on moon, dies at age 82.
I’m just old enough to remember the moon landings (though my memory of Apollo 11 is dim enough — just me and my dad watching our black-and-white TV late at night — that it might not be a true memory.) When I was a kid, Neil Armstrong and the other astronauts were my heroes and I dreamed of going into space. It’s not a goal of mine anymore, I couldn’t deal with the claustrophobia and isolation, but I still think what they did was epically brave and heroic. It’s sad that no one has followed them out past Earth orbit in almost 40 years … I hope that within my lifetime we’ll get there again, and farther, and I’ll have more heroes like him.
